Metal Detecting tips for beach hunting

Beach metal detecting is super fun and can be surprisingly rewarding if you know how to play it right. Here are some solid tips for successful beach hunting:

🏖️ 1. Know the Types of Beaches

  • Dry Sand: Easy to hunt, usually filled with modern coins, jewelry, trash.

  • Wet Sand / Tidal Zone: Better finds! Heavier items settle here, especially after a tide change.

  • In the Water (Shallow Surf): Riskier but can pay off. Use waterproof detectors and gear.

🧲 2. Use the Right Metal Detector

  • VLF (Very Low Frequency): Great for dry sand. Sensitive to small items but can struggle with wet salty sand.

  • PI (Pulse Induction): Best for wet sand and surf—handles mineralized areas like a champ.

  • Multi-Frequency (e.g., Minelab Equinox): Best of both worlds—great for all areas.
